ABSTRACT

Before Exporting to EPUB With information it gathers from your document and the default EPUB export settings, along with some additional fancy footwork, InDesign does an admirable job of generating an EPUB that complies with the 2.0.1 standard. It rasterizes the first page to use as a cover image, employs file names as image Alt text, adds a creation date and a navigational table of contents (with a single navigation point), specifies the language of the document, and generates the required unique identifier. As long as you’ve kept your end of the deal and added a title, barring any peripheral issues, the final product should indeed comply with the letter of the law. If you intend to distribute your eBook commercially however, the resulting EPUB is, shall we say "less than optimal," and may not pass muster when you try submitting it to online stores.
