ABSTRACT
Students with poor reading skills and other learning difficulties need to be taught skills that we often assume they know. Do not assume that the students will know how to do things. Rather, watch how they approach tasks to determine whether they are able to do them. Remember that adolescents who cannot perform the day-to-day tasks that their peers can perform become expert avoiders who can competently camouflage their difficulties. Start at the beginning and explain everything.The students might have missed important details and it is likely that they will be reluctant to reveal this by asking questions. Sometimes they do not know what questions to ask.
