ABSTRACT
A broad definition of waste includes emissions to air and water which have been covered in earlier chapters. This chapter covers solid waste and contaminated land. Both of these issues have been mentioned previously and putting them together is justified in that the two are often linked, although waste disposal is not the only source of land contamination; air and water pollution may also be a cause, as described in Chapters 4 and 5.
