ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is to consider the properties of art which are of particular relevance to young people with a visual impairment and how they can gain access to them. Art in the National Curriculum ‘is to be interpreted as “art, craft and design” throughout’ (Department for Education (Dfe) 1995b) and includes ‘⋯drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, sculpture, ceramics, textiles, graphic design [and] architecture’.
