ABSTRACT
Apart from environmental problems the variation in explosive energy liberation, propagation and utilization cause the following serious operational problems thereby severely influencing the productivity and safety during mining. These are:
• Generation of oversize boulders, • Extension of blast induced cracks into the sides
and back of the blasting front, • Poor blast profile leading to excessive or no
throw, • Difficulty in drilling, • Excessive post-blast cleaning of the production
face for smooth deployment of the excavator and movement of dumpers etc,
• Uneven floor conditions due to incidence of toes, penetrating into the floor surface etc.
