ABSTRACT

Tim Asch carried out research and made films in Canada, Africa, Trinidad, Venezuela, Afghanistan, and Indonesia. Of these, the best known and most widely screened are three or four films of the series about the Yanomamö Indians of Venezuela. From 1976 until his return to the United States in 1982, Asch worked in Australia, where he devoted his professional energies to film-making in Indonesia. The films on Indonesia are perhaps less well known than the Yanomamö films but are, in my opinion, his finest work.
