ABSTRACT

This book has set out to give a comprehensive introduction to the ways in which you can assess older pupils with poor reading skills and put together programmes to help them improve. It has been written at a time when the extension of the National Literacy Strategy into secondary schools has encouraged more opportunities for learning support teachers to work with small groups of low-aged readers in a structured and regular way in-class or by withdrawal group, through the guided reading initiative in the middle section of an English lesson.
