ABSTRACT

The common threads between the two traditions here are obvious: both traditions have a history, and during it both have spread from the lands of their origin. Additionally, in the course of their history and spread both traditions have undergone a certain amount of development. We have already seen, in Chapter One, how an interesting comparison can be drawn between the role of the Apostle Paul in the Christian tradition, largely responsible as he was for the shift in the orientation of the Christian community from the Jews to the Gentiles, and the caliph the second successor to as leader of the Muslim community, the person who launched the community on its career of conquest outside Arabia.
