ABSTRACT

A strategy linking resources and uses is a prerequisite of good practice in heritage management. The effectiveness of such a strategy can only be ensured by thorough evaluation, not only of the resource, but also of its possible uses. The management of heritage resources is a dynamic process of making and sharing meaning and value, and it is only by detailed study that it is possible to set parameters for management practices which are capable of enhancing the understanding-and enabling the care-of resources, whether through conservation or interpretation.
