ABSTRACT

In her description of the ‘new field theory’ of feminist theatre studies, the subject of this study, Case states that it is a field which ‘enables the critic to perceive recent plays by women playwrights, recent feminist theory, and recent discoveries in critical methodology as interactive and interdependent within the last two decades of the liberation of the feminine gender’ (1989a:126). It is important to recognize, therefore, that as an interactive model of plays, theory, and criticism, the field of feminist theatre studies may be able to offer other fields of study valuable ‘ways of feminist seeing’.
