ABSTRACT

For many students, everyday life in schools, clubs, and colleges is a violent experience. Along the corridor at break, in classrooms, in the toilets, behind the bike sheds-all of these places can turn out to be threatening and scary. When we talk of ‘threatening’ we’re not just limiting ourselves to physical hurt but referring to a much more broad-based definition of violence that would include various violent and controlling behaviours like being punched, kicked, shownup in front of friends, verbally abused, having your hair pulled, being sexually harassed, being teased, mocked and psychologically intimidated.
