ABSTRACT

Since modern Christians cannot accept any such assertion, it is

necessary for them to reconsider all the alleged miracles.

In this world of fixed natural laws it is also difficult to see how

there can be a place for a loving and intelligent being able to

have some influence over events, and even over events in human

lives. Some people would think that at most it would be possible

for such a being to give human beings an experience of some

spiritual presence with them, but little more. Yet Christianity

asserts that underlying this universe in which we live, and in

some respects operative in it, is something like a human mind,

will and purpose. This is God whose existence is asserted in the

Christian creeds. The following pages are an attempt to formu-

late the main assertions of the creeds in terms acceptable to the

modern mind.
