ABSTRACT

The powerful potential of the Internet is unfolding around us as we learn more about its use as a tool to support teaching and learning. Government funding has ensured that what began a decade ago as a vision shared by a few has entered the mainstream consciousness of the teaching profession. However, the concept of the Internet as ‘a means through which we can participate and contribute to a society in which learning is increasingly accessible and adapted to individual needs’ (Blair 2001) has still not been fully realised, either for students who have severe learning difficulties or the teachers who support them.
