ABSTRACT
Like all interesting words ‘research’ means different things to different people. At a recent international conference on educational research, there was a discussion of the difficulties of encouraging students in professional preparation courses to engage with the research training elements. Part of the problem was that students do not seem to understand ‘research’ in the same way as their tutors.
