ABSTRACT
Conservation planning may seem a dry subject when viewed merely as a statutory activity. However, understanding how conservation became a part of the planning system and becoming aware of the motivating factors behind that pursuit reveal a story which leads us to question basic assumptions about how we perceive our position in time and space. It may sound fanciful but having an idea about what is worth conserving reveals far more than a preference for a certain architectural period.
