ABSTRACT
The snowcap of Mont Blanc is the highest summit of a mountain massif stretching 50 km from near Martigny in the northeast to St Gervais in the southwest. The group imposes its 20-km wide bulk between France and Italy, and protrudes into the Swiss canton of Valais in the north (Figure 4.1).
