ABSTRACT

The term ‘e-philanthropy’ originated during the dot.com boom of the 1990s in the USA, and relates primarily to the use of the Internet as a tool or platform of fundraising and fund distribution. Potential donors either search grantee/ applicant websites or solicit proposals. Upon evaluating and selecting grantees, the e-philanthropist would then make a contribution to causes in line with the donor’s objectives. The importance of ephilanthropy is likely to grow in the future to become a major fundraising and fundseeking tool.
