ABSTRACT

Introduction The ultimate aim of this chapter is to show how sources of information on the financial markets meet the various needs. Before doing so, it may be helpful to explain ‘financial information’, and to outline the workings of ‘the City’. What goes on in our financial institutions affects every business and every individual to varying degrees, so information on it is a core area of business information. Another reason to know something about City activities is that because they are so dependent on uncertain future outcomes, financial industry institutions are heavy consumers of business information of all kinds.
