ABSTRACT

A wide variety of ideophones are used in Finnish. Many of them are reduplications. The majority of them (about 90) are adverb pairs in the instructive case. The following are common patterns: the initial consonant remains, with a change in the following vowel, or the initial consonant differs, with or without a change in the following vowel.
