ABSTRACT
There is of course no way out of an impasse. An impasse is by definition a position from which there is no escape. The only way that feminism can be extricated from the political difficulties of a theory of universal oppression is by reconsidering the relationship between feminist theory and feminist political strategy. The way out of this particular impasse is not to get into it in the first place.
