ABSTRACT

Children’s participation in competitive sports frequently begins at an earlier age, going through training and competition process, so it’s important to understand the physiological responses to training in prepubertal athletes (Armstrong and McManus, 2011; McManus and Armstrong, 2011). Swimming is characterized by high training volumes and a higher peak VO2 in prepubertal boys and girls swimmers compared with children not involved in any regular sport practice is expected. The future of peak aerobic power research seems to focus on the VO2 kinetics during sport specific tests in young athletes.
