Geopolitical implications of the Law of the Sea in the Caribbean

Since 1977 the ongoing subdivision of the Caribbean Sea into national maritime zones has led to the elimination of open sea, and consequently to a series of border disputes and agreements. The process of maritime boundary construction and negotiation is complicated by some facts which reflect the specific situation of the Caribbean.
