ABSTRACT
Having read Jan Blonski’s article, I intended to write a letter to the Editor, but now, having read the subsequent contributions to the discussion, in particular by Sila-Nowicki and Ewa Berberyusz, I have resolved to write an article, even at the risk that it will contain no revelations. Yet, perhaps I shall manage to say something of essence, since I have thought about these matters a great deal and for a long time.
