ABSTRACT
This chapter provides a case study of the Scottish and Newcastle (S&N) European Forum. S&N today comprises a number of diverse businesses that employ a workforce of over 40,000 with a plc group head office based in Edinburgh. It is the leading brewer in Britain and one of the largest in Europe with a portfolio of well-known brands. The brewing division of S&N, Scottish Courage, employs 6,000 staff and was formed in 1995 following the acquisition by S&N of the Courage business. In addition to the UK operations, the company owns Beamish and Crawford in Ireland and has an importing company in the USA. The Retail Division, S&N Retail Ltd owns around 1,500 managed public houses and 1,000 leased public houses across the UK employing 30,000 employees.
