ABSTRACT

As yet there has been little research on management views of functioning European Works Councils (EWCs). This chapter therefore attempts to help fill the gap, and has three objectives. The first is to suggest hypotheses concerning the factors likely to affect management evaluation of EWCs, mainly on the basis of previous surveys. The second is to offer empirical evidence on the views of senior managers in multinationals, using data collected from multinationals mainly outside Europe, which is then compared with that of a European Economic Area (EEA) sample. Third, a more detailed analysis of the findings is presented.
