ABSTRACT
The analysis of speech has been a central concern of much microanalytic research. One principal theme has been the organization of conversation, its focus on the analysis of turn-taking and interruptions. Another principal concern has been the analysis of speech style, for example, the circumstances under which speakers either accommodate towards, or diverge from, one another. There is also a substantial literature concerned with the analysis of speech content, especially the ways in which particular types of linguistic action are accomplished, such as questioning and disagreement.
