This statement was made in a filmed interview for Swedish television in 1983. The sentiments are perfectly understandable in the early 1990s. If anything, his limitation to Europe could be extended beyond this continent; Huw Williams was not too aware of MTV at that time and neither were the Swedes, nor the Jamaicans.
