ABSTRACT
Discussion of the notion of ‘boys’ underachievement’ has punctuated the preceding chapters as we have tried to unpick the discourses and evaluate claims concerning gendered exam performance. In this chapter we turn instead to a group who constitute half the student population, yet have been largely ignored in the popular debates on gender and achievement – girls.
