ABSTRACT

Introduction Pain is the most common and debilitating problem associated with sickle cell disease (SCD). The episodes of pain are severe, relapsing and unforgiving in their nature and are often termed ‘crises’. The management of pain in SCD has improved little over the recent years. Recent practice has highlighted the usefulness of non-pharmacological techniques such as cognitive behavioural therapies.
