ABSTRACT
In the years before the First World War Elizabeth campaigned for the vote for women. In March 1912 after attending the Conspiracy trial of suffragettes she addressed 12,000 women at the Albert Hall, urging fairer treatment of suffrage prisoners. She then returned to the calm of her Sussex home, ‘all so pretty & pacific’.
