ABSTRACT

London was not awaiting the American actress. Elizabeth, who had worked so hard in the United States and had starred with Barrett and Booth, was an unknown in Britain. She was anyway in transit. During her first week in the country she had been offered a part in Daly’s forthcoming New York production and had accepted by post from Norway. So her return to England was supposed to be for a few days en route home until her boat sailed. In practice it lasted for the rest of her long life.
