ABSTRACT
Rainforests represent one of the world’s most valuable non-renewable resources,1 and to throw them away is inexcusable. Yet the rapid pace of clearance over the last ten years, coupled with the many places where clearance is taking place (Chapter 2), paints a bleak picture about the future prospects of the remaining rainforests. Deforestation is one of the most important environmental problems in developing countries.2
