ABSTRACT
Merleau-Ponty holds that the perceived world is the foundation of all thinking about the world, including philosophical thinking. Unless we were acquainted with the world as it presents itself to us we could hold no beliefs, no theories, no values. The world as we experience it makes possible both common sense and science.
