ABSTRACT
We have seen that the personality of Inanna/Ištar had a male component, an aspect of martial power. To some extent, the goddess unites gender roles, although she is never bisexual or androgynous. Her sexual identity is always that of a woman, even when her cult statue wears a beard to emphasize her special function in the sphere of warfare (Groneberg 1985).
