ABSTRACT
The composite ethnic nature of Mesopotamian civilization, since its very beginnings in the late fourth millennium, is by now a generally accepted notion. The phenomenal success at exploiting the potentially super-fertile countryside by means of irrigation attracted people from all corners of the Middle East to the alluvial plain.
