ABSTRACT

A variety of school-to-work transition programs have traditionally been offered by public educational authorities to assist young people in choosing a career or preparing for employment. In general, they fall into the following categories as described by Barnes and O’Connor (1987):

• Experiential learning is conducted wholly or in part through practical, community-based, on-site experience. Examples of such activities include cooperative education, internships, experience-based career education, work study, work experience, and job shadowing.
