ABSTRACT

There are a number of major developments in London which make the headlines: the development of King’s Cross, the Channel Tunnel terminal saga, the redevelopment around St Paul’s Cathedral. None however have received the scale of coverage-or represent the national significance-of the development of London’s docklands. Developments in the area have been controversial for over twenty years, but the past decade has seen an accelerated pace of change and a dramatic new direction for an area traditionally viewed as one of the poorest and least attractive for investment.
