ABSTRACT
In the UK system, and those based upon it, supervisors are normally debarred from acting as examiners and, in many cases, are excluded from even attending the oral examination. However, following disquiet about the possibility of abuse, supervisors are increasingly being invited to sit in as observers to see fair play.
