ABSTRACT
In view of the financially damaging effects of the 2001 RAE outcome on many HEIs which had been encouraged to undertake research, a fund of £18 million has been established in 2003/04 to support research in seven units of assessment which are as not as well-established as more traditional research areas with a further £2 million being allocated later in the year. The units are:
nursing; other studies and professions allied to medicine; social work; art and design; communication, cultural and media studies; dance, drama and performing arts; sports-related studies.
