Planning teaching and learning in English

Experienced teachers should make teaching look easy, especially to the unpractised eye, and new teachers watching experienced teachers at work will often comment on how smoothly things seem to go, and hopefully feel confident and inspired. Yet planning a first lesson often takes hours of work, and a trainee English teacher may well reconsider that initial judgement after their first lesson with that same class. Were they really just putty in the teacher’s hand or a nightmare that, due to good planning and brisk organisation, didn’t happen?
