Assessment, recording and reporting

From the one-to-one informal feedback given to a student in a lesson, to the publication of your school’s exam results, all teachers are involved in assessment, recording and reporting of learning and attainment at a number of levels. This is the point at which your teaching and students’ learning ‘goes public’, to parents, the local community and in the national education arena, which is why it is such a potentially contentious area. However, on a more intimate scale, well-managed assessment and relevant feedback is at the heart of the teacher-student relationship.
