ABSTRACT
There has been a significant interest in most Western democracies in the past decade or so in matters concerned with quality assurance and this has included quality assurance in universities. The meaning of this term will be discussed below but what has emerged is that many organizations are demanding assurance from others that the quality of the processes and the outcomes related to their interaction will be of an appropriate standard. They have sought that assurance either by demanding that the quality of the outcomes be demonstrated directly or by requiring the other entity to show that there are appropriate quality maintenance processes in place so that the quality of outcome is assured.
