REFLECTION The role reflection plays in education is currently attracting considerable attention and debate throughout the world. Educators from a range of disciplines are embracing a reflective outlook and encouraging students to learn about themselves and their areas of study by engaging in reflective activities. While acknowledging that many educators working at all levels promote reflection, our focus is on how it can be facilitated in higher education contexts. In this setting students eurolled in undergraduate and post-graduate programmes are often required to undertake clinical placements or equivalent work experience. These learning opportunities, together with the life experiences students bring to formal learning environments, provide educators with rich and relevant opportunities to make meaningful links between theory and practice.
