ABSTRACT

Introduction In this chapter I describe some of the trends in student choice that have taken place over the past 10 years while I have been working as a higher education adviser at the City and Islington College 6th Form Centre. The College is located in an inner-London area and attracts a wide range of students. In this chapter I look at how students make choices, explore some of the factors that influence their decision making and then go on to outline the ingredients for a successful higher education advice and guidance programme.
