ABSTRACT

Such schobols will be very different from what they are now. They will be centres of life-long community learning, working with all sections of their communities in a shared quest for improving the quality of their own and others lives. The 21st Century Education Project in Dudley is one among several projects committed to creating, testing and evaluating a model school for the future.2 There will be new and more stimulating ways for young people and adults to record and review, report and evaluate their learning.3 There will be a fresh sense of personal and public pride and confidence among members of the teaching profession. The upcoming generation of students and pupils will work with us to cherish the best in our received traditions of voluntarism and community involvement. They will also set about the urgent task of finding new and more appropriate ways to meet the challenges of life in the 21st century.
