ABSTRACT

The dilemma of globalism is to reconcile the conflicting demands of the region or nation state with those of an increasingly dynamic global community. Globalization means that we now live in a world where what happens in one place rapidly and radically affects what is happening everywhere else. This is most obvious in the economic sphere where international corporations increasingly dominate world trade. Globalization also affects politics, the law and, most obviously, popular culture. Modern mass communications mean that we live in a global village where every pupil might be given the chance to undertake shared ventures by fax, email and the Web.
