ABSTRACT
Various attempts have been made in recent years to demonstrate that society in general and schools in particular are rooted in a set of shared values. These values are presented as the basis of moral and social education. Many argue that life is not so simple and that we need to be ready to cope with some tough and complex moral challenges including the need to identify the civic values required by a modern democracy.
