ABSTRACT

The issue raised in this case concerns assisting new students to develop information literacy skills as they make the transition to higher education.

Background

The students in this case were undertaking a common core course ‘Health and Community’ for higher education programmes in nursing, occupational health and safety and health promotion. The School of Nursing of an Australian university offered the subject both nationally and internationally, utilizing internal campus-based and external distance modes of teaching, across regional campuses. The consequence was a student cohort diverse in context, location and culture.
