ABSTRACT
In face of the kind of opposition described in the previous chapter, women needed support and help in finding employment opportunities. How did the Society organise itself to fulfil this role and how effective was it? Why did this period see the development of two professional organisations, one for men and one for women? The focus of this chapter is on the Society and the way in which it built up the relationship with members, as well as campaigning on their behalf.
