ABSTRACT

In this chapter I am concerned with the ways in which individual causal connections are organised in relation to one another, conceptually as opposed to the basically perceptual organisation in terms of natural processes. The main questions to be considered are the hierarchical organisation of causal influence across categories of things, tendencies to see causal influence as linear or cyclic, and, in a later section, the world view of common sense.
